You need to read a progress note for an existing case and write a new one for your own case. You also need to send an email from the case. Finally you want to do some management of your documents.

View a progress note for the Judy Adams case

Exercise 1

  1. Select the Judy Adams' case in the Case List.
  2. Click its Documentation tab on the right side of the screen.
  3. Select a progress note in the list of documents. Notice that is displayed at the bottom half of the screen.

A progress note like this is a simple unformatted document recording important details of the progress of the case. It may have a cost attached.

Add a progress note to your own case

Exercise 2

  1. Select your training case in the Case List. This is the case you created in a previous lab.
  2. Click the Documentation tab.
  3. Click the New Document button .
    • Click the Text tab.
    • Click Progress Note to select this document template.
  4. Click OK.

    5. This will add a progress note to the case and display the preview window, where you can enter text.

  5. Type notes about your client's progress in the text area.
  6. Click the Save button

Note that you can edit this progress note at any time in the preview window.

Exercise 3

  1. Select your training case and click the Documentation tab.
  2. Sort the list of documents by clicking the column heading Author.
  3. Locate and select the progress note you just created.
  4. Click the Delete button .
  5. We don't want to actually delete this because it is going to be used again later.

    6. So click the NO button in the confirmation message.

If you do accidentally delete the progress note there is no way to recover it.

But if you just did that, don't stress: this is just a demo. Simply create a new progress note as per exercise 2 above.

Send an email

Exercise 4

  1. At your training case click the Documentation tab.
  2. Click the button to create a new email.
  3. Click New blank email from the dropdown list.
  4. Click the arrow at the right hand side of the To: field.
  5. Select Wendy Donovan, your case's Bill To contact, from the list of contacts. Click the button to make Wendy the recipient. Click OK.
  6. Type some appropriate text into the email. Please note this will not be sent because you are in training mode.
  7. Click the Send button.

Reply to an email

Exercise 5

  1. Select your training case.
  2. Click the Documentation tab.
  3. Select the email you wrote in exercise 4.
  4. Click the button and select Reply from the dropdown list.
  5. Type a short sentence in the top of the email.
  6. Click the Send button. (This will not be sent as we are in training mode).

Look for all documents that include the text work.

Exercise 6

  1. Select Tools >Search from the main menu.The search window will open.
  2. Click the Document Search tab.
  3. In the Search For box type in: work.
  4. Click the dropdown arrow next to Advanced Search and check that the date range is correct. Change it to All Dates.
  5. Click Search and view the list of results under Search results.
  6. If nothing is listed check if Limit search to currently selected case is ticked. If so, uncheck it and repeat the search. You should see more results.
  7. Selected a document in the list and click Open to view it.
  8. Click the search window's close box when you have finished.

Exercise 7

Drag and drop a file from the desktop to Case Manager.

  1. Select your training case.
  2. Click the Documentation tab.
  3. Reduce the window size of Case Manager so the desktop is visible.
  4. Choose a saved file on the desktop and drag it to the documentation tab in Case Manager. A copy will now be saved in the Documentation tab.

You can now handle simple documents in Case Manager. It's time to work with Word documents.
